How does a typical working day look for a breeding for disease resistance intern?
Crops are attacked by many pests and pathogens. An important disease in beetroot and Swiss chard (both Beta vulgaris) is downy mildew. Worldwide there are many isolates that might have identical or differential responses. This internship aims to create a better understanding of this plant pathogen interaction and gives you the opportunity to get acquainted with practical breeding activities and research. For example, you will analyze historic data and study literature, but you will also design experiments with respect to the validation of genetic inheritance models and you will be involved in practical breeding work.
Your contribution as a breeding for disease resistance intern You have a passion for genetics, an eye for detail and a practical attitude. Moreover, you like to analyze the data to be obtained and to search for creative solutions. You can organize well and you are able to keep an overview. In addition, you like working in a team, but you can also work independently.  
In addition we can find the following on your CV:
  • Currently following a  MSc education, preferably in the area of Plant Sciences
  • A full-time availability for a minimum of 4 months
