Internship Embedded AI and Data Analytics

What does this internship at Rijk Zwaan look like?
Rijk Zwaan's challenges as a high-tech vegetable breeding company involve being able to scan plant phenotypes in a wide range of conditions, all over the world. At the same time, there is a global trend towards automation, use of AI at the edge and autonomous vehicles in agriculture. The goal of these developments is to make raw sensoring data available in a highly condensed way to allow efficient business decisions.
 
This internship will focus on one or more steps of a highly automated AI-to-data-analytics workflow.
Starting point is a DeepStream reference architecture for the Nvidia Xavier embedded compute module (https://devblogs.nvidia.com/multi-camera-large-scale-iva-deepstream-sdk/). The workflow involves optical perception at the edge, with initial AI inference in a light-weight device that could fit a drone, followed by messaging and stream-based (e.g. spark stream) post-processing in for example Elastic or similar data indexers. The final result will be presented in a data analytics platform (like plotly or altair).
Your contribution
You are a self-starter and you have an interest in scientific software. Moreover, you have good communication and programming skills and you entail a creative problem-solving attitude. In addition we can find the following on your resume:
  • Currently following a MSc program in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or other studies in the STEM field with a large computational component.
  • Full-time availability (32 – 38 hours a week) of 6-12 months, starting date negotiable.
