What will your role as Manager Licencing & Contractresearch at Rijk Zwaan entail?
Within this role you are responsible for coordinating external research contacts that are relevant for our strategic and operational R&D activities. This covers not only technical and scientific developments in the field of research, but also business-related ones. In close consultation with the research managers, breeding managers and board of directors, you identify research centres/companies, start-ups and their activities in the fields that are relevant for Rijk Zwaan. You initiate and maintain contact with institutions around the world, and you embody Rijk Zwaan’s interest and engagement – making use of both your own network and the networks of your colleagues.
You make suggestions about our strategic direction and work in close collaboration with the board of directors, research managers and researchers to develop external R&D-related business opportunities. By playing an active role in coordinating contract research activities and the in-licensing and out-licensing technology and patented plant traits, you help to ease the workload for your R&D colleagues.
What do you have to offer?
You have a sound knowledge of plant breeding and genetic research including a large scientific network. Furthermore, you have good interpersonal skills, clear business insight and strong negotiation skills which you use to achieve the best results for everyone involved and to build successful long-term relationships. You can cope well under pressure and are able to quickly grasp the essence of new developments in order to focus on what matters and set priorities. You’re willing to spend an average of four months per year travelling, the majority of which will be as short business trips.

Necessary qualifications and experience:
  • A university degree, preferably in the field of plant breeding or biotech
  • At least 5 years of (international) professional experience related to scouting and tech transfer
Fluency in English, both written and spoken
