Phytosanitary Specialist

Pathogens and pests are of concern to growers all over the world. As much as we want specific pathogens or pests in our resistance screens, we want to keep them out of our breeding stations. Resistance screens are mainly carried out and being developed by our phytopathology department. For our activities in Brazil, we are searching for a phytosanitary specialist to support the local and international activities. Within this role you are responsible for creating and implementing hygiene protocols for the breeding locations. You will translate these protocols into practical work instructions.
All activities will be in close collaboration with our central phytopathology, breeding and quality departments, mainly situated in the Netherlands. These activities can be summarized as follows:
  • Support the commercial team in diagnostics of diseases.
  • Support the breeding programs and take the lead in disease and pest evaluation in breeding and specific screening trials.
  • Establish close contacts with institutes and universities with relevant knowledge and research on phytopathology, in order to get a good overview of the main disease problems in Brazil.
The Phytosanitary Specialist reports to the Managing Director Brazil.
 
We are seeking a Phytosanitary Specialist with:
- A bachelor degree in agronomy with a specialization in phytopathology.
- At least 2 years’ relevant experience
 
Because of a strong centralized setup of our research department, good communication skills is a prerequisite for this function. We are looking for a local expert who is not afraid to make use of existing in-company expertise and processes.
Besides an academic level, we are looking for a very practical candidate who is not afraid of dirty hands and feet in the field.
Because of the close contact with the departments in Holland, an good command of the English language is required. For this position frequent travelling in Brazil is required.
