How does a typical working day at Rijk Zwaan look for a Researcher Machine Learning?
Within this role you are responsible for investigating the usability and applicability of (mainly) machine learning and deep learning methodologies on data originating from the entire organization. Together with colleagues from different departments you initiate research projects, after which you and colleagues from the IT-department take care of collecting the proper datasets. Additionally, you are responsible for:
  • Analysis of the data (text, images, sequence data) using different methodologies and architectures, with a focus on the more complex analyses;
  • Knowledge off reporting and presenting the insights gained from your studies;
  • Together with software engineers and colleagues from the business you take care of the implementation of your models in everyday practice.
Your contribution as a Researcher Machine Learning
You are a researcher who likes to take the initiative and who asks the right questions. You have an eye for detail, you are able to recognize patterns quickly, and you are good in working out details. You have good communication skills that contributes to integrating your knowledge throughout the organization. In addition we can find the following on your CV:
  • At least an MSc in computer science, computer vision, data science, artificial intelligence, (bio)informatics, (applied) mathematics or applied physics;
  • A specialization in machine learning and deep learning, with proven experience in developing self-learning algorithms in a present-day framework such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or MXNet;
  • Programming skills in Python and R, combined with version control in GIT.

This vacancy is for a position within the department of Quantitative Genetics, a team of people being enthusiastic about statistics, genetics and data analysis in general. Every day we are putting our statistical knowledge into practice for breeding by analysing data and by close collaboration with software-developers and image analysis experts.
