Seed Technology Researcher (Production)

How your day will look as a Seed Technology Researcher at Rijk Zwaan
As a Seed Technology Researcher you have an initiating and coordinating role in setting up, conducting and reporting on research projects aimed at developing innovative methods or improving existing methods in seed production, particularly for glasshouse crops. This research is aimed at delivering improved cultivation methods that can be used in our seed production. Examples are a more suitable glasshouse climate for seed production (using plant sensors, for example), improved fertiliser formulations, healthy soil systems and determining the harvesting time. In your research you will make use of your plant physiology expertise and your fundamental knowledge of plants’ reactions to their environmental factors. The ultimate aim is to obtain high-quality, healthy seeds. You will start your research projects independently, maintain good coordination with stakeholders and be responsible for supervising analysts and assistants during each project.
What you will bring to the job

You are practically oriented and enjoy developing seed production methods. You have an affinity with horticulture and keep up with the latest developments in the world of horticulture. You are also creative and have highly developed analytical insight. You can work in a multidisciplinary, project-based way and perform well as part of a team. You also have excellent communication skills and are able to create consensus and take decisions.

We would expect to find the following on your CV
  • At least MSc level: Plant Science; Agronomy
  • Knowledge and experience of plant and/or seed physiology
  • Knowledge of horticultural crop cultivation
  • Experience of and/or interest in translating physiological knowledge into practical solutions
  • Experience of project management
  • An enterprising attitude and organisational talent
  • Good knowledge of statistics
  • Driving licence
