Senior Scientist Bioinformatics

What does your position as Senior Scientist Bioinformatics at Rijk Zwaan look like?
As a Senior Scientist Bioinformatics you are responsible for solving complex research questions in the field of plant breeding through various bioinformatics analyzes. You will be responsible for executing and analyzing different types of ~ omics data on the basis of which phenotypic properties can be linked to the genome. You will be mostly working in multidisciplinary projects. In this position you will be deployed in both applied and more fundamental research in Rijk Zwaan's crops. You are also involved in:
  • Searching for new candidate genes that can contribute to improve traits in Rijk Zwaan crops;
  • Contributing to the development of new bioinformatics tools and methods, together with your other bioinformatics colleagues.
What you will bring to the job
Your analytical skills and motivation help you to solve complex issues within research while striving for high quality. Your experience in genome comparison and functional genomics methods enable you to identify new candidate genes. You also have the ability to translate complex genomic data into biological implications. You are a team player, enthusiastic, driven to take on new challenges and continuously improve yourself. You are able to work on multiple projects at the same time, without compromising on quality. In addition, we can find the following on your resume:
  • PhD in bioinformatics or comparable (eg computational biology, system biology) with several years; of work experience, or a MSc in a comparable field with at least 7 years of work experience;
  • Experience with analyzing ~ omics data, comparative genomics and candidate gene detection;
  • Advanced experience in at least 1 programming language (eg: Python, Java, R);
  • Knowledge of plant biology or plant breeding.

As a Senior Scientist Bioinformatics you are part of the bioinformatics team within the biotechnology research center of Rijk Zwaan. This team consists of 13 colleagues who are working on the further development of genomics research at Rijk Zwaan. In addition to an innovative research environment, we are happy to offer you:
