Rijk Zwaan (hereinafter: we) processes personal data from applicants, participants in events and other interested parties (hereinafter collectively “data subjects”). In this privacy statement we explain why and how we process your personal data.

Who are we?

We are Rijk Zwaan Zaadteelt & Zaadhandel B.V. and all affiliated subsidiaries; an international vegetable breeding company ( Our head office is located in De Lier (The Netherlands), where all international activities are managed. This privacy statement covers all our processing activities and therefore also if we process personal data together with other parties (including our subsidiaries abroad), for example for an international vacancy or a large event with a partner.

Which personal data do we process?

Job application
We process the personal data relevant to your application: first name, last name, e-mail address, place of residence, your resume and motivation. During a job interview we can ask for passages from your resume: a.o. relevant courses, internships and your employment history.

We also receive the resume and motivation of the data subject concerned before or after Inhouse days and Events.

Applicants can be subjected to an assessment if this is necessary for the position to test competences. We provide the necessary personal data to the Processor carrying out the assessment.

Why do we process this personal data?

The "processing" of personal data means that Rijk Zwaan can: collect, record, organize, store, update, modify, request, consult, use, provide or distribute, bring together, protect, erase or destroy.

You can reach us via different channels: e.g. telephone, post, e-mail, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. We process personal data to make this possible.

Job application
The personal data of the data subject are processed for the purpose(s) for which they are provided, such as registration to attend an event / inhouse day or to determine whether the data subject concerned is suitable for a position within Rijk Zwaan that is being applied for.

The personal data of an applicant can be collected by means of the submitted application, notes from the interviews with the applicant, further information during the application process and consultation of public sources.

Personal data provided when applying for an international vacancy can be shared with our international staff. The details of an applicant can be passed on within Rijk Zwaan to see if an applicant is suited for a job other than the job being applied for.

The assessment can be part of the application process in order to gain a better insight into the qualities of the data subject concerned in order to determine whether he / she is suited for a position within Rijk Zwaan.

General information
Furthermore, the data can be used to send general information, for example about the organization of Rijk Zwaan or about our website.

Information about vacancies
If we want to use your personal data for a different purpose, for example to keep you informed of new events or vacancies, we will ask for your permission.

For Rijk Zwaan we use 'adapted target groups' via social media platforms. We do this ourselves and/or partners who do this on our behalf. We do this via Facebook and via LinkedIn targeting. On these platforms (personalized) advertisements can be shown for vacancies. Data subjects can also be approached for a vacancy.

In addition, the personal data can be used for statistical research and possible improvement of our recruitment and selection procedure

Data subject rights

Data subjects have several rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To exercise these rights you can contact us via

  • Right to be informed and access: If you wish to know the personal data that we process about you, please contact us;
  • Right to rectification: If you think that we process wrong information about you, we will adjust it;
  • Right to be forgotten: You can ask us to delete the personal data we process from you. It is possible that we still need to process this data for other purposes (for example for our administration);
  • Right to restriction: If you think that we are processing your personal data unlawfully or incorrectly, you can limit this processing with your request;
  • Right to object: If you object to the processing of your personal data, we will terminate this processing as soon as possible;
  • Right to data portability: If you want to have your personal data transferred, please contact us.

If you have given consent, for example receiving vacancies or general information, you can withdraw this consent. Please contact us for withdrawing consent.

Retention periods

We store personal data for two years in a secure environment in order to inform the data subject of new suitable vacancies and events and to use this data for a (new) application.

The data subject concerned can request us to delete the personal data and we will delete this data no later than four weeks after the event or the end of the application procedure.

Third parties

We can use third parties for the recruitment process or at events and in-house days. These parties process personal data on behalf of Rijk Zwaan (for example: the executor of the assessment).
