What does the job of Commercial Managing Director at Rijk Zwaan UK look like?
Rijk Zwaan UK is responsible for all our commercial activities within the UK. Our subsidiary in the UK focuses on product development, marketing and sales. We are a growing company who are very active in the market. The UK team is led by two Managing Directors with a team of 12, working from both our office in Pocklington, near York, and remotely throughout the UK.
Though having joint responsibilities, each Managing Director also has their own areas of focus, one being commercial activities and the other concentrating on finance, legal, ICT and HR. The candidate we are looking for will be focusing on the commercial side of Rijk Zwaan UK and include business development and chain activities.
With support from the Rijk Zwaan head office and globally operating crop teams, you will develop business strategies and tactics to grasp the opportunities in the dynamic vegetable and hot crop seed to ensure sustainable growth for the company. Every year you will make a five year development plan, including sales targets, investments and cost development, in close collaboration with the other Managing Director. Rijk Zwaan UK is part of the North Sea Cluster, which consists of the commercial subsidiaries in the Netherlands, UK and Belgium. The team of Managing Directors reports to the Business Managers, who are located in The Netherlands.
Your contribution:
As Managing Director we expect you to have a broad interest in all aspects of managing a company including fostering the Rijk Zwaan people oriented company culture, managing financial risks and legal compliance. The main focus in this role is motivating your team in servicing the growers, processors, category managers and retailers in the market. You should have strong people management skills and the ability to build bridges between people and companies. We are seeking an inspirational leader and organizer with an international outlook, someone who is both people and business oriented.
In addition, we require the following:
- An academic degree preferably in the area of (agricultural) business economics
- Around 10 years managerial experience
- Good understanding of agriculture, within the seed industry would be a bonus
- A people-oriented management style
- A real team player
