The vacancy for a Managing Director Production at Rijk Zwaan Tanzania

Our two subsidiaries in Tanzania are led by a board of three Managing Directors who are jointly responsible for the entire operation in Tanzania. At these two subsidiaries, Q-Sem and Afrisem, we employ a total of 500 employees. As Managing Director you have an important people management role. You will provide purpose, focus, direction, and motivation to the teams.

Each Managing Director has his/her own field of attention in breeding, production or finance & HR. As Managing Director you will focus on our production activities across two stations in Arusha - Tanzania.

Together with the Production Managers and Station Managers you take care of high quality seed production in Tanzania, fixed asset management and collaboration with breeding support linked to global breeding programs. In this role you work together with many departments and colleagues, such as the Quality Assurance team, HR team and Maintenance and Repair teams to safeguard an optimal production outcome. An important focus is the optimization of several processes.

As Managing Director Production it is important to have a broad interest in all aspects of managing a company including fostering the Rijk Zwaan company culture and preserving our positive image towards the government, sector associations and other stakeholders. 

We are seeking a Managing Director Production with the following character traits:

You are a people oriented leader with an open personality and good communication skills. You are trustworthy and open to receive feedback. Someone who has a positive attitude, with good organizational skills and project management abilities. You have an international outlook and enjoy a multiculturally diverse environment. You have an active and practical approach, with persistency and you like to solve problems. You are able to think and act independently, although you are also a team player and you think in long-term processes. For you, it is important to maintain a good balance between the long-term goals and short term demands. You are fluent in English whereas knowledge of Swahili is an advantage. Next to this, we look for:

  • Academic/strategic working and thinking level
  • At least a Bachelor degree in the field of horticulture
  • Proven and adequate practical horticultural experience
  • At least 10 years of management experience
  • People oriented leadership skills
