Your job at Rijk Zwaan

As a Research Manager Seed Technology, you are responsible for the strategic and process-oriented management of our research programs. Together with another Research Manager, you provide direction for the department. You connect and coach multiple specialized research teams in the areas of Seed Genetics, Seed Physiology & Treatments, Seed Production and Crop Physiology. With inspiring and people- oriented leadership, you set priorities, translate multidisciplinary knowledge into practical innovations, and create a positive work environment. In addition, you will be responsible for:
  • Managing and monitoring the research portfolio
  • Strengthening collaboration between research disciplines to create integrated solutions that meet the needs of internal clients
  • Building and maintaining effective partnerships with internal stakeholders
  • Representing Seed Technology Research with internal and external expert groups
  • Driving innovation by exploring and applying new methods

Where will you be working?

Rijk Zwaan is an international family-owned company with a people-oriented corporate culture. Rijk Zwaan operates at the very beginning of the food chain. We develop fruit and vegetable varieties and sell their seeds to growers and other supply chain partners around the world. In doing so, we make a significant contribution to the global food supply.As Research Manager you will lead the Seed Technology Research Department in De Lier, which consists of approximately 45 researchers, technicians and assistants working on seed technology developments.

Your contribution

You approach complex issues from various angles and think in terms of solutions. Drawing on your knowledge and experience in managing research, you develop a clear vision for the use of both traditional and new technologies. In doing so, you focus on improving products and processes. You work in a structured and action-oriented manner. You maintain a broad perspective and know how to translate strategic objectives into practical implementation. Within a multidisciplinary research environment, you keep the ultimate goal firmly in mind, engage colleagues in change processes, and strengthen collaboration. You invest in sustainable relationships and know how to bring together different perspectives and interests. With a people-oriented leadership style, you create a stimulating work environment where people feel heard. In addition, your resume should include the following:
  • A completed PhD in biology, plant sciences or process technology
  • At least 10 years of work experience, including at least 5 years of leadership experience
  • Knowledge of genetics, physiology and seed quality
  • Proficiency in English and Dutch
