How does your job as a Teamleader Breeding Aubrika at Rijk Zwaan look like?

As Teamleader Breeding Aubrika, based in Antalya, Turkey you will be leading Aubergine and Paprika breeding team which focuses on developing new, tasty and healthy hot pepper, sweet pepper and aubergine varieties. Also, you will be responsible from the pepper breeding program as Pepper Breeder. The international breeding team consists of (practical) Breeders, Assistants and Support staff. The local team in Turkey consists of 6 colleagues including a Breeder, Selection Coordinator and 4 Breeding Assistants.

For your Teamleader role, you will focus on challenging, guiding and coaching team members in both crops to ensure effective collaboration and productivity in contributing to the vegetables of tomorrow. Attention to personal development, coaching and a positive working atmosphere within the department are just as important as your Breeder role. 

For your Pepper Breeder role, you will be working on new varieties, plant concepts and disease resistances based on global breeding strategies and in close contact with the market they are intended for. You work closely with specialists from various (inter)national departments, like phytopathology, crop maintenance, production and product development. You work both in the greenhouse and office. Your responsibilities include:

  • Motivate, guide and manage the team in the execution of their tasks and projects
  • Analyzing, organizing, directing and timely adjusting the various breeding goals within the breeding programs
  • Preparing strategic crop meetings and drafting and implementing the breeding plans with team members
  • Implement and standardize (new) breeding methods
  • Breeding pepper varieties of the future

Your Contribution:

You work with good planning, organization, analytical and problem-solving skills. On your resume we can find the following:

-A Master’s degree (MSc) in Agriculture, Biology, Plant Sciences or a related field, with a good understanding of plant breeding and genetics

-Proven experience of at least 5 years in plant breeding

-Knowledge of molecular biology, genetics and breeding technologies

-Experience in leading a breeding team

-Professional command of English and Turkish language

-Ability and willingness to travel
